Pros and Cons for White Rodgers Thermostats

While there are few negatives about this product, there is always a feature that one home thermostat has over another like product in today’s highly competitive retail and cyber marketplace. For instance, most temperature notifications still require human eyes and feelings to determine if a room or house is too hot or too cold. In other words, even this high-tech smart device thermostat needs someone to program and monitor it. Still, the product features almost human “intelligent” alerts that display low and high temperature notifications.

Overall, many homeowners appreciate how easy it is to operate the White Rodgers Thermostat. Unlike many digital thermostats on the market today, you do not have to work from scratch to learn how to operate it. The controls are simple and straightforward and there are no additional bells and whistles that can confuse you.

The Pros and Cons for this Product Include:

Filter change indicator could be more visible, say customers sharing views about this product online.

  • There is a desire for more “energy savings” and thus the thermostat gets the blame for keeping a room or a building environment either too hot or cold.
  • The free smartphone app does not link to all operating systems; while most iPhones and iPad seem to work fine.
  • The smart response high-tech feature is something that the manufacturer states is something that “continually learns.” Thus, there may be some miscues when first setting the pre-cool or heat settings.
  • The thermostat features Wi-Fi connection to any platform; while the product is designed for true “smart” home heating and air conditioning choices.

In general, there are very few cons when it comes to this product that has received high “pro” ratings from customers who use the product, and professionals that install it.

Things to Consider before Purchasing this Product

The homeowners who chose this top quality automatic control thermostat say it’s because of the many tech features that allow user friendly control of their home heating or AC via using their tablet, PC or smartphone. Those customers who do not want such high-tech features can choose from the manufacturer’s line of standard thermostats; while today’s trending models are all about using technology to ensure comfort when they return home. A typical scenario is a family is away from home on a cold winter’s night and wants their house cozy and warm when they walk in the door. This product’s “connect from anywhere” features allow this to occur without any problems.

White Rodgers Thermostat Always Gas its Customers Backs

Thus, the things to consider before buying this thermostat are linked to why special features the customer wants. If the customer wants a dependable home thermostat, than this is the company to choose; while if they want the best high-tech comfort heating and air conditioning thermostat, than this is also the company and product to choose. It all comes down to what bells and whistles the customer wants in a home heating and AC control thermostat, say electricians commenting online about why White Rodgers is the best of the best.

The company's business model has changed since it was a manufacturer of slow cookers and hot plates.

Now, Danby specializes in marketing the products and uses affiliated companies to do the manufacturing. Its affiliates have production facilities in Mexico, China and the United States.Danby Products Ltd. also has offices in Ohio, Foxboro, Findlay and Guangzhou.

Our Delonghi Portable Air Conditioner review identified the PACN130HPE as a product sufficient for medium-sized rooms as large as 500 square feet. The unit sits on casters, making it easy to move from room to room based on your needs.

This air conditioner is especially useful to those living in high humidity, because the dehumidifier can eliminate almost 90 pints of moisture when in use. The removal of humidity from the environment also decreases the likelihood of mold or other microbial growth in your house.

On the flip side, during cold winter months you can enjoy the PACN130HPE heat pump that puts out 3810 watts of heating power. Together, the heating, cooling, and dehumidifying features revealed in our Delonghi Portable Air Conditioner review make the product a versatile addition to any home.

Product Specs

Our Delonghi Portable Air Conditioner review uncovered some of the official numbers behind the PACN130HPE. Along with its 13,000 BTUs, the unit has three fan speeds. The air conditioner runs quietly, never surpassing 54 dB. It also comes with a timer and a remote control.

The unit's built-in dehumidifier is capable of capturing 3.6 points of moisture from the air each hour. Altogether, the product weighs just over 67 pounds and measures 17x16x29.5 inches.

Pricing

During our review we found a wide variety of prices for individual products. For instance, the PACN130HPE retailed as high as about $$$, but we also found it available for near $$. That is a difference of well over $ for an individual product.

We found similar competitors between $$$ and $$$. Another product, a smaller and less expensive evaporation fan, is available for around $$$. It will definitely pay for serious shoppers to compare prices of the product they want to buy and be sure they are ordering the best available deal.

The Honeywell CS071AE Portable Evaporative Cooler is a product with a much lower price point than the PACN130HPE or the Whynter ARC-143MX. The product uses water evaporation to create a cool breeze mocking a natural breeze from Mother Nature. The unit draws warm air in and uses the Honeywell Evaporative Cooler to that absorbs heat and returns naturally cool air.

An evaporating cooler uses dry air and therefore performs better in in low-humidity environments. When the air has been naturally cooled, a fan pushes it into the local environment. The process is more natural than a traditional air conditioner that uses refrigerants to cool the air. Traditional air conditioners are also substantially more expensive.

The Honeywell CS071AE only uses 50 watts of power and does not need a compressor.

The Frigidaire Cool Connect Smart Window Air Conditioner offers 12,000 BTUs and claims to cool spaces up to 550 square feet. Like every other air conditioner in our Delonghi Portable Air Conditioner review, we have to question whether this really cools that much space effectively.

Nonetheless, when functioning in an appropriate space, the Cool Connect cools rooms quickly and efficiently. When air is pushed out from the unit, it is dispelled in a 360-degree motion upward. While the unit is not as heavy as some others, its casters are smaller, making it more difficult to move efficiently.

In a technological twist, this air conditioner uses a downloadable app that allows you to adjust the temperature, change fan speeds, and more: all through online operation. The product even supports Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. Once users download the app, they have to create an account and add the unit to app.

At just over three feet tall, the unit uses a cylinder-style body that is unique from many competitors. The diameter of the body is about 12.6 inches wide. The product weighs about 78 pounds.

With 12,000 BTUs, this air conditioner functions well in hot weather, though the maximum cooling area is debated among owners. The compressor is a bit loud, but it is no louder than a traditional window unit.

Among the competitors we looked at in our Delonghi Portable Air Conditioner review, the unique capability of the Cool Connect is its WiFi options. Through WiFi connection users can operate time and schedule features as well as controlling speeds, modes, and temperature.

Voice commands are also possible with the Cool Connect, but many users have experienced a lot of connectivity issues.

The control panel features an LCD with temperature settings, current temperature, and operation items. It also contains multiple LED indicators for cool mode, fan mode, dry mode, and eco-mode. Other indicators remind you to clean your filters or other items on your personal AC schedule.

Your purchase includes a limited two-year warranty on all parts and labor. After two years, the compressor, condenser, evaporator and tubing have three additional years under warranty (five total).

Pros

  • Easy out-of-box installation
  • WiFi scheduling options
  • Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

Cons

  • Small casters make for difficult movement
  • Many users report WiFi connectivity issues

Conclusion: Delonghi Portable Air Conditioner Review

At the conclusion of our Delonghi Portable Air Conditioner review, we give the PACN130HPE four stars. We felt the year-round capability of the product is very appealing. While 500 feet of cooling space may be pressing the envelope slightly, the PACN130HPE is a powerful air conditioner that is also very quiet when operating.

You do not have to be a home maintenance specialist to install the product, either. No tools are required, and the setup of the PACN130HPE can be done in a matter of minutes. Once assembled, the provided caster wheels make it easy to move where needed in your home. Rated at 115/60 (V~Hz), the product is relatively energy efficient.

Why Choose A Polaris Water Heater?

Investing in a Polaris water heater is the same as making any other choice for your family’s home. You’re looking for something that will last for a while, not a disposable appliance designed for immediate replacement. As you comb through your choices of tank-equipped water heaters, you’re going to be impressed with everything Polaris has to offer.

American Water Heater, manufacturer of the Polaris brand, takes great pride in their domestic manufacturing. All of the research and corporate handling comes from Johnson City, Tennessee. They deal in residential and commercial water heaters. No matter what time of building you are working with, you can find a Polaris model to fit your needs.

The heaters in this review are gas-powered, and the condensing units contained inside each heater are capable of handling propane or natural gas. If you live in an area of the United States where your electric bill is high, you can take comfort knowing that your water heater will help reduce your utility bill. It won’t matter how large or small your building is, as Polaris is designed for all sizes.

Polaris particularly appeals to bigger families where the use of water is an everyday activity for multiple people. If you plan to have multiple sources of hot water running at once on any given day, this can be a lifesaver. How many times have you waited for a shower, only to find out that the hot water was out and you would have to wait?

Thanks to the recovery rate in hot water, Polaris remains one of the most sought-after names in heaters. With as much as 253 gallons per hour, a Polaris water heater will be one of the best gifts you can give your home. Hot water recovery in this range rivals that of a tankless heater.

Which Model Is The Correct Polaris Water Heater?

All Polaris water heaters can be found in two distinct sizes: 34 gallons and 50 gallons. Of the residential gas models used for this review, a total of 7 models were analyzed. The power in these models went from 100,000 to 199,000 BTU.

The 34-gallon models are lightweight and not as tall as their 50-gallon relatives. 24-gallon Polariswater heaters stand at 48.5 inches and typically weigh 150 pounds. Meanwhile, the 50-gallon variety is 64 inches tall and tips the scales at 180 pounds.

If your family has 4 or less people in the home, you can stick with the 34-gallon variety. Any families with 5 or more members will be better off with a 50-gallon version. One of the 34-gallon models, the PG10-34-100, can recover hot water for 179 gallons with Polaris’ First Hour Recovery feature.

Each model comes with a warranty that lasts for 10 years. You’ll find the Energy Star seal of approval on all of them, ensuring they are compliant with the necessary standards for American appliances.

What Features Make The Polaris Water Heater Stand Out?

Thanks to the design innovation out of Johnson City, the Polaris line of water heaters outranks the competition in several key areas. You’ll notice how different they seem from other brands in the sections highlighted below.

Heat Transfer

tanks of water heater

This might shock you, but one of the most important parts of a water heater is how well it heats water. Thankfully, you’ll have no performance issues out of a Polariswith its submerged combustion chamber. Along with the helical flue, the chamber creates a 96% efficient flow of water through the pipes and to your faucet.

The spiral design of the flue makes each tube longer and gives it a bigger contact surface. This way, the heat transfers to a greater amount of water in a shorter amount of time. The heat from the natural gas will directly transfer to the water in close proximity instead of being wasted on anything else.

You will get some condensation out of a Polarisunit, so you’ll need to be sure that a properly-installed drain line is available. Only 1% heat loss was noted during the evaluation of the heaters used for this review, and an extremely low exhaust temperature allowed for smaller vents.

Using A Tank

Even with the appeal of tankles water heaters in 2019, you won’t want to give up the Polaris brand. The tanks in each of the natural gas units are built with stainless-steel, all but eliminating the possibility of rusting or corroding in your basement. You also won’t need to put in any anode rods thanks to the material used.

Without the possibility of rust or corrosion, you can look forward to a water heater that lasts for at least a decade. No more routine maintenance calls because it just won’t keep up with the stress of everyday use. Furthermore, if you’ve become familiar with the smell of a rusty appliance seeping up from the bowels of your home, you can say goodbye to that scent.

Efficiency In Clean Combustion

close up look of water heater arrangement

The Polaris line comes equipped with a metal fiber burner. Not only is this as resistant to corrosion and rust as the rest of the tank, but it won’t wear down due to temperature or mechanical wear and tear. The burner contained inside the combustion chamber uses a high-intensity blue flame that produces clean, extremely high temperatures that will keep your home safe and minimizes emissions.

The gas burner comes paired with a brushless DC blower, which combines air and gas to produce quiet operation. You’ll never even know your water heater is running until you approach it to check for any necessary maintenance.

Unlike most water heater models on the market, Polaris uses a hot surface igniter for its natural gas. This is much better than pilot lights that come standards on many other tanked water heaters. It also makes the ignitor more reliable and durable. It’s one less thing you have to worry about as the heater ages.

You’ll notice much less pollution thanks to the clean combustion of the entire heater. This will comply with even the strictest emission standards, including those that can be found in California.

Venting The Pipes

tightly gripped pipe

With a direct venting system, no Polaris model will have to emit gas inside your home. Anything that comes out of the combustion process will be sent through its spiral pipes, away from the rest of your interior.

Thanks to this design choice, you can choose to hook up the Polaris heater to PVC, ABS, or CPVC pipes as long as 120 feet. You can feed these through an outside wall or run them along the roof. Using the inlets, all of the air needed for combustion is taken in through the house exterior.

One thing to note is the process of water heating used in Polaris. Because of its engineering, you won’t be able to use any Polaris water heater in a mobile home.

Modern Touch

If you ever have a problem with your Polaris heater, chances are you can diagnose it yourself. The digital interface collects everything you need to know about the performance of the heater and tells you what’s happening on an LCD panel. In the event of a total failure, the processor will shut off the heater completely.

You or the technician you work with will have an easy understanding of what to fix should a problem arise. If you ever need to replace the control board inside, don’t worry. Each Polaris water heater comes with a unique control key that imports data to a new board.

Installation Rookie

A Polaris heater is put into your home in largely the same manner as any other unit. Provided you have the correct connections for your electricity, water hookup, gas, inlet, and exhaust all in place, you won’t need to make any other adjustments.

In case you need to make any repairs, all that’s needed is the access panel located in the front of the tank. This allows you to easily dig into the elements of the heater.

Safety First

warning sign

Rest assured that American water Heaters has your family’s safety in mind when they designed the Polaris line. All Polaris models are compliant with “flammable vapor ignition resistance” standards, ensuring that open flames are only created inside the combustion chamber. You can easily check the temperature on the digital readout, and adjust it with the controls provided.

You will find two switches for the safe operation of the Polaris heater. They are blocked on the outlet and the intake switch. If the heater detects an obstruction in either an exhaust or intake pipe, or the blower stops operations, one of the switches will send a signal to kill any potential ignition.

There is also the Energy Cut-Off switch, which automatically ceases any operation from the heater when the temperature gets too high. The value for the temperature is set by Polaris.

How Does The Polaris Water Heater Work?

Using the blower located at the bottom of the water heater’s tank, the Polaris will ignite to create a mixture of air and gas, which will be delivered through the blower system. Afterward, the hot surface ignitor fires the gas in the main burner.

If no problems are found in the combustion chamber, the blue flame is created. This flame evenly heats the burner, resulting in clean combustion and a minimal amount of emissions.

Where Should You Put A Polaris Water Heater?

The great part of a Polaris heater is its versatility in heating. Not only will it work as a water heater, but it multitasks as a space heater. This is due to its air and hydronic heating systems contained inside. Using the circulation pump and a recirculation system, you can bring hot water into a house or business even faster.

If you combine the Polaris heater with a solar setup, you’re looking at a massive return on investment after purchasing the unit. All you need is the initial heating process done through a Polaris gas heater and your solar backup system can take care of the rest.

Taking The Plunge And Buying A Polaris Water Heater

There are very few alternatives to a Polaris water heater that can stand head and shoulders with this brand. Yes, you’re going to pay extra at the onset, and the price tag might be intimidating depending on the size of the heater. What this doesn’t show you is the amount you will not be paying for repairs, heating utilities, and another heater within a few years.

Other companies should take their design standards and compare them to American Water Heater. After owning one of the Polaris models, you may wonder how you and your family ever put up with another unit. With incredibly low emissions, unparalleled energy efficiency, and a simple computer readout for diagnostics, you won’t be able to part with the Polaris in the future.

There are few better investments you can make as a homeowner than a hot water heater that stays reliable throughout the years. Nothing has the ability to make living a miserable experience than a lack of hot water, especially if you have a large family.

With Polaris, you won’t have to concern yourself with emergency phone calls to technicians during holidays. Look past the price tag and think of your family’s future when buying a Polaris water heater.

What Name Value Does A Payne Air Conditioner Carry?

Air conditioning unit

Image Via Aireone

When 1950 came around, Payne Heating and Cooling was at the forefront of perimeter and zone heating. They expanded their offerings during this decade when they debuted a line of remote air conditioners.

They continued to advance and expand their line of products and installation. In 1962, they broke new ground when they offered the installation of a horizontal forced-air furnace that could be installed outdoors. On top of this, they could now put in vertical combination heating and cooling units for apartments, schools, and other types of buildings.

Starting in 1955, a merger saw Carrier link up with Affiliated Gas Equipment, who owned three different companies: Bryant Heater Company, Day & Night Heater Company, and Payne Furnace & Supply Company. This new supergroup became known as BDP. During the 1980s, Payne continued to improve its products and expanded their territory into other parts of the country.

How Well Does A Payne Air Conditioner Function?

One of the most well-known features about a Payne air conditioner is its balance of functionality and affordability. Payne doesn’t make anything that you would find at the top of a modern list of air conditioning units. They are no slouch when it comes to manufacturing, as they still work under the same umbrella as Carrier and Bryant.

While those names are all synonymous with each other, you won’t find a lot of the same features in a Payne air unit that you would in the other two, or in competitors’ names. The advantage with Payne is the price.

You won’t argue that the lower cost of the Payne model makes it a strong contender. Payne doesn’t skip out on quality parts, just the extra bells and whistles. The internal parts that make up a Payne A/C unit are nearly identical to anything you can find in a Carrier.

Efficient Units

Thanks to the crafting in a Payne unit, you’ll find that they use electricity and consume energy without jacking up your electric bill. Payne manages to do this with a great trick: they seal the compressor. By doing this, they eliminated almost any possibility of contamination of the compressor, guaranteeing that the entire unit will stay working for a longer period.

Payne units are also sealed off from any problems that might be affected by voltage and active currents. With these hazards out of the equation, you can expect the air conditioner to hold up longer, free of service calls and maintenance or replacement.

Every Payne unit has a permanent split capacitor, and it works as great as it sounds. Thanks to this feature, the amount of energy consumed by the air conditioner is drastically reduced. You’ll notice cooling still taking place in temperatures up to 40 degrees Fahrenheit when the unit is outdoors. If you don’t notice it physically, you certainly will when you open your next electricity statement.

If you’re looking to save some money on your utility bills, Payne should be the first thing on your mind.

Volume

When you notice that you can’t hear your air conditioner running, it’s either a concern or a realization that you made the right choice in buying a unit. In the case of Payne, it’s the latter – you’ll almost never hear this unit running while it’s working.

Bedroom

Image Via pexels.com

Payne designed each of their air conditioners to reduce the noise, giving each compressor a coating of high-density foam that nullifies the sound. If you’re working in a location close to the unit, you won’t have to worry about constant interruptions when it kicks in during the hot summer months.

Along with a lack of any noise issues, each air conditioner is designed specifically for sound control, thus reducing the vibration that emanates from each unit. You’ll notice a total lack of any vibrations or jostling any time you approach the unit or walk by it. The unit will continue operating without interrupting your daily routine.

Downflow Conversion

Each Payne air conditioner can be used as a horizontal and downflow application. If you prefer, you can convert from downflow to flat, and this includes the covers for each of the horizontal ducts. Payne includes this to make sure that everyone in your house will be completely comfortable.

Converting gives you the option of how you want to control the airflow without putting in a completely separate unit or making any other modifications.

What Issues Can Cause Problems With A Payne Air Conditioner?

Because of the focus on low cost, Payne is not the number one recommendation by a lot of people when putting in a new air conditioner. One of the first things you will notice about a Payne unit is the lack of a lifetime warranty. Any new air conditioner is typically going to last you as long as your house, but that’s not the case with Payne.

Man repairing air conditioning unit

Image Via Stock

Payne offers a 10-year warranty on each of their models, and t his has to be registered to the homeowner within 90 days of the purchase of the unit. If you don’t meet this requirement in time, the warranty is cut in half to 5 years instead.

Along with the lack of a lifetime warranty, the low price means you won’t be finding a lot of the advanced features that come from other brands like Bryant or Carrier. In 2019, you can easily find air conditioners that are controlled wirelessly or may different fan settings. This won’t come with a Payne but keep the price tag in mind when you consider the lack of features.

What Model Of Payne Air Conditioner Should You Buy?

When shopping for a Payne air conditioner, you have several different choices when you look into their different models. Listed below are the best options when you have to make a decision.

PA13NA

The PA13NA is one of the more budget-friendly air conditioners you can find under the Payne family name. If you’re in immediate need of an AC unit in the dead of summer, this won’t completely break your bank account. You’ll get single-stage cooling, a communication system, and a 13 SEER energy efficiency rating. Along with the Energy Star rating, you’ll find this to be one of the most cost-effective air conditioners you can buy.

PA13NA Central Air Conditioner 13

Overall rating: 3.5 out of 5 Stars

Within the PA13NA, you can find special fan blades which are designed to keep the noise from this unit as low as possible. These come paired with a set of noise-absorbing pads that all but eliminated the static you would associate with an air conditioner. A standard quality grill is found inside, and you can swap this out for a higher-density grill if you want the option.

You won’t have to do much maintenance on the PA13NA. It has an excellent paint choice, preventing you from needing to maintain its appearance or worry about any rust during the colder months. The cabinet is protected by a heavy-gauge steel material, which houses the coil and all of the other components inside.

The PA13NA is a great choice if you need something right now and don’t want to spend a lot of time researching your options.

PA16NA

With many of the same features as its PA13NA relative, you might mistake these two as twins. The PA16NA is more reliable and has a higher SEER rating, making it the better choice if you want something to last longer and save you money on your bills.

PA16NA Central Air Conditioner 16

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

You’ll automatically get a denser grill than you would with the PA13NA as your default choice. Other than this, you’re getting much of the same quality as you would from the PA13NA. Corrosion prevention, noise reduction, and environmental friendliness are all part of the package deal with the PA16NA.

If you have a bit of extra money allocated in your budget, go with the PA16NA. The grill choice is better right off the bat and keeps your home cool without any volume issues. The same safe refrigerant found in all other Payne models, R-410A, is used inside the PA16NA.

PA3Z Packaged Model

For industrial installation, you should consider the PA3Z. You can install this one on the ground or on the roof. The foundation is impossible to rust, and with a 32-inch cabinet design, you can fit this into a small property or even a zero-lot-line. Thanks to the design on the fan blades, even this commercial model can keep the noise below 80 dB.

PA3Z Packaged Model

Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5 Stars

With this paint option, you won’t have to worry about seasonal storms ruining the finish on the PA3Z. The design is low-profile and uses a louvered coil enclosure, ensuring that you won’t have any problems from trespassers or ice damage.

When Should You Buy A Payne Air Conditioner?

Here’s where things can get tricky. For whatever reason, Payne doesn’t advertise its prices on their official website, so it’s up to you to find out the cost from each seller.

The best thing you can remember is to buy your air conditioner during non-peak times, if you can help it. While a broken air conditioner is obviously a reason to run out and buy another, you want to be sure that you can keep this purchase relegated to a slow time of year. If you can manage to find one during the winter, this is when bigger retailers will have higher stocks.

Another option is to find a contractor to work with during the fall or spring, before the busy season hits. If you hire someone for the installation, talk to them about getting an off-season rate. Thanks to the milder weather in many parts of the country, the rates for installation are going to be much more negotiable.

You can enjoy the savings in your cool and ventilated home while others struggle to get theirs installed just as the heat wave hits. Talk to a bunch of different contractors to compare rates.

Making Your Decision On A Payne Air Conditioner

Controlling your house’s temperature from your phone seems like a cool feature, but it isn’t necessary to keep it cold. If your number one priority is the actual temperature and now how it gets set, look into a Payne air conditioner. Not only can they keep your property comfortable, they can be installed in commercial and educational buildings.

The consistency of a Payne air conditioner’s performance, thanks to everything from blade design to compressor insulation, means you can purchase one with confidence. Even if you don’t get a lifetime warranty out of it, you can begin to save for a higher model if you decide to swap out your existing choice.

About American Standard

American Standard has an excellent track record in the indoor heating and cooling industry. With over 130 years of experience in the HVAC industry, American Standard has committed itself to innovation and providing one of the most comfortable home experiences for customers.

From 2006 to 2011, American Standard was rated the highest in overall deal satisfaction for five consecutive years.

The company proudly boasts its innovation through its collaboration with NASA to maintain a clean and comfortable indoor environment for returning Apollo astronauts in the famous 1969 space mission.

According to a 2016 study conducted by Consumer Reports, two-thirds of owners of an American Standard system are likely to be completely satisfied with the performance of their air conditioner, even by the fifth year.

Key Features Of An American Standard Air Conditioner

The air conditioners range from 16 to 22 Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratios (SEER). American Standard air conditioners have earned the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR label. The company is a major devotee to producing energy-efficient, low cost and high-performance products. They are known for providing simple, credible and unbiased information on the energy efficiency of their products.

Air conditioning units feature a variable-speed compressor to improve humidity control and controlling the amount of energy consumed.

These units are also among the quietest on the current market, producing a low 69.9 decibels of sound.

Due to their gray color, they blend well in most interior landscapes. These units are made of louvered steel and designed to protect the coil while allowing airflow. Manufacturers use rust-resistant screws that are zinc-coated, capable of preventing corrosion. It also features an appliance-grade finish that helps keep the elements away from the system’s important processing parts. The company’s units stand on Durabase pans, which are resistant to corrosion and cracks.

American Standard air conditioners come with a 10-year warranty on the unit, but also additional parts such as the outdoor coil. To receive this 10-year warranty, you’ll need to register your new air conditioner within 60 days. Otherwise, you’ll only receive five years of warranty for your unit.

How Do Central Air Conditioners Work?

The main component that makes up a central air conditioner is a condensing unit, which contains the unit’s condenser coils, compressor and condenser fan motor. The evaporating coils or cooling coils should be installed in your home, mounted on top of your furnace or an air handling unit (AHU).

The three major stages of the air conditioning process are temperature control, cooling and air circulation.

The air handler uses a blower fan motor to circulate the air in the rooms of your home. The blower fan draws air through the return vent. The warm air in your home is then cycled back into the return vent as cool air pumps into the rooms of your home.

Once the room is cooled to a temperature set on your thermostat, the thermostat will signal the blower fan and the condensing unit to stop cooling your home until the room temperature increases beyond the one you’ve set on your thermostat.

As the website claims, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of care.

How Does American Standard Compare To its Competitors?

american standard vs goodman

One of American Standard’s major competitors is Goodman Air Conditioning and Heating.

The company approaches air conditioning and heating a bit differently.

In terms of classification, American Standard classifies its air conditioners using the categories platinum, gold and silver while Goodman compartmentalizes them via SEER.

Considering pricing, neither company publishes their prices on their website.

Thinking about energy efficiency, American Standard provides a broader range of efficiency in its units than Goodman does. American Standard offers more efficient air conditioning than Goodman does.

In terms of the warranty, the longest you’ll find for an American Standard Air Conditioner is typically 10 years, sometimes 12 years for certain parts. Goodman typically offers a 10-year warranty as well on its products, with the exception of some that have a lifetime warranty on them.

What Is Public Perception Of American Standard?

While many reviewers claimed that their American Standard air conditioner worked well, some reviewers said that their air conditioners needed repairs quite frequently. They also mentioned that without the additional warranty, many of these repairs to the cooling unit would be well over their monthly budget.

However, while these claims are warranted, a solution to saving on future repairs when your cooling system needs fixing is to take preventative measures to maintain your unit. Be sure to take care of the unit and inspect it monthly to catch any small issues before they fester into larger ones.

Final Words On A Navien Tankless Water Heater

Choosing A Navien Tankless Water Heater Over A Tank

If you’ve never used a Navien tankless water heater before, you might wonder what the fuss is over a tankless option.

The truth is in the amount of money you’ll spend on heating for a heater with a tank. Traditional water heaters use a ton of energy, and the resulting bills can cause headaches during colder months, especially for bigger families. Not only are tankless heaters more energy-conscious, but they save a lot of space. You won’t have to worry about knocking down a door to install a new tankless heater in your house.

Installing Navien Tankless Water Heater

Image Via appropriatereview.com

Hooking up a tankless water heater is easy. All you need to do is connect it directly to your plumbing system, and the heater will do the rest of the work. The temperature increases dramatically quickly when compared to a water heater using a tank.

There are a few different models for Navien heaters, all of which have been reviewed. Some are better suited for smaller houses and simple tasks that don’t involve too much water consumption.

Reviewing The Best Navien Tankless Water Heater

Because so many different kinds of Navien models exist, it’s best to look at each of them in individual detail.

NPE-240-A

Overall, the best answer to “Which Navien tankless water heater should I buy?” has to go to the NPE-240-A model. It makes your life much easier in all aspects, from installation to performance.

With other traditional water heater models, you might run the risk of setting the temperature a bit too high on the heater itself. This can cause burns for you and the younger members of your family. You don’t want the water to be boiling hot the second it comes out of the tap. On the 240-A, you can find simple arrow buttons on the display module that let you set the temperature without any confusion.

Navien installs a preheating technology in each of their tankless water heaters that eliminates much of the time it takes to get hot water. You’re probably used to waiting a minute for the shower to get hot, or for the water in the sink faucet to get hot enough for dishes to soak.

NPE-240-A Navien Tankless Water Heater

Image Via progas.ca

Overall rating: 5 out of 5 stars

With the preheating feature, you don’t have to stand and wait anymore. After only a few seconds, anyone trying to get hot water in your house will be wondering how they lived with other slower heaters.

The 240-A is meant to work with all standard half-inch gas lines throughout your home. You can also install it into different types of pipes with varying lengths, including PVC pipes that run up to 2 inches. With this in place, you can safely vent out any excess gas that might circulate throughout your house from the water heater.

This tank also comes with a recirculation pump, ensuring that you have water continuously running through the heater. You won’t have to worry about any water passing through the heater without getting
up to the needed temperature.

The 240-A is stainless steel, which will prevent you from worrying about corrosion or rusting throughout the life of the heater. Considering that tankless water heaters are meant to last for decades, you’ll probably appreciate this.

NPE-240A Premium

Yes, this model sounds almost exactly the same as the previous water heater in this review. The difference in the NPE-240A Premium is in the name and directly relates to how the heater performs. The condensing design in the Premium model is meant to make the heater run even more efficiently than the base model.

As a result, you’ll find that your bill for gas will drop significantly. Thanks to the Premium edition, it will condense the gas inside each pipe to grant you more powerful heating with less effort.

NPE-240-A Navien Tankless Water Heater

Image Via progas.ca

Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Both of the stainless-steel exchangers will last longer than other exchangers you would find in cheaper kinds of metal used with traditional heaters. This gives you perfect temperatures according to the settings you program into the panel.

When you turn on a faucet, water will directly come out of your pipes, passing over the heat exchangers. This quickly raises the temperature before the heater presses it through the lines to wherever your sink is located. If you know your way around the installation, you can hook this heater directly into your gas pipelines in your home.

The same preheating technology found in the original 240-A model is also inside the Premium version. There’s no need for a flow per minute reading in a tankless water heating so you can skip that statistic completely. With a tankless water heater like this one from Navien, you’ll feel the temperature rise earlier. Like other models, it’s tailored for direct connection to your home’s gas lines.

NPE-210A Premium

If saving money is your number one priority when putting in a new water heater, the NPE-210A Premium is your best bet. There are many different members of the Navien family, but none of them match the energy efficiency relative to its size than this one.

Thanks to the condensing features, you will use less gas while focusing on the tasks you and your family need. The 210 is smaller than the 240, so this model will work best for those with a lighter household. This will also cut down on the amount of floor space that the heater occupies.

Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

You’ll notice a drop in your utility bill as soon as you get this Energy Star-certified model installed. You can also convert this directly to your home’s layout in case you don’t have the typical gas pipes in your house.

On the heater itself, you’ll notice the digital screen that looks just like one of your internet-enabled mobile devices. You won’t have to worry about how to correctly input the temperature with the easy instructions found on the heater. The preheating ability from the 210 rivals anything else in the Navien family. Even with a smaller model, you won’t have any trouble getting hot water as soon as you want.

NPE240S-NG Premium

This member of the Navien family is specifically designed for those who heat their homes with natural gas. While others are all compatible, you might want to consider the NPE240S-NG if you know you’ll be in the same place for a specific amount of years. The initial investment is less than other Navien heaters, so you’ll save money up front as well as in your heat usage.

The 240 NG also uses stainless steel connections at the top for both intake and outtake of water. It lets water pass directly over the heating source, speeding up the process compared to what you would get from a tank model.

Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Having two exchangers on a natural gas model makes a huge difference in the amount of hot water you get in a short time. Thanks to the field-conversion compatibility, this model will adapt to any setup your home has.

Don’t expect any drop in performance because of the specific requirement for natural gas on the 240 NG. You’ll get the same preheating speed and intelligent design seen in each of the Navien heaters reviewed already.

NPE-210A-LP Premium

If your house runs on propane and propane accessories, the NPE-210A-LP is the one for you. It’s one of the best offering from all of Navien, and you’ll be the envy of your fellow homeowners if they also use propane.

In case you need to make some changes to your house, you can also put in a new half-inch gas line or install a two-inch vent to move the excess runoff out of your home. You can convert this model into a home that uses another type of gas, but this should be reserved for experts only. Don’t attempt this unless you’ve previously installed heaters.

NPE-210A-LP Premium Navien Tankless Water Heater

Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

For apartments and small homes that use propane as a source of gas, this choice of heater is perfect. The minimal amount of space it takes up gives you the extra room you need inside a home that might not have a much square footage as a full house. You could also use this inside a second getaway spot, like a cabin or cottage.

Saving money on your heating bill is simple with the use of the temperature setting on this heater. All you need to do is keep it lower and you’ll notice a measurable difference in the amount you pay. The best place to use the 210A-LP is a spot where the ground water is already warm. It still heats very quickly, but the capacity is lower than other models on the list.

NPE-180A

The simple and contemporary look of the NPE-180A might trick you into thinking it’s some other kind of appliance. Made to look like a refrigerator or washing machine, this model takes up much less space than you would expect from a water heater.

NPE-180A Navien Tankless Water Heater

Image Via progas.ca

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 stars

While the space required for this heater isn’t much, it measures 150,000 BTU for its gas input. This means a ton of heating possibility once it’s hooked up and ready to go. This can do a lot for a small home that has many people inside. Even if you use it for multiple showers and/or loads of laundry, there will still be enough energy for running the dishwasher.

If you need to, the temperature setting can be adjusted to Celsius settings at any time. This makes measuring and conversion much easier if you live in an area that doesn’t operate on American scales, or if you’re used to the metric system.

Purchasing A Navien Tankless Water Heater

Buying any of the Navien tankless water heaters on this list is simple. You can find them on Amazon, and many vendors will offer free shipping. With weights up to 100 pounds, this will save you a ton of money on shipping costs. There are also big-box store options like Home Depot and Lowe’s if you prefer to pick up your heater in person.

What you’ll have to watch out for is getting one installed. Although putting in a tankless water heater requires less effort than one with a tank, it still should be left to the experts. In some cases, choosing to put in a water heater on your own could void the warranty. Pay close attention to the terms when buying a Navien.

Final Words On A Navien Tankless Water Heater

If you’re looking for a solution to your previous problems with a water heater, you can’t go wrong with a Navien tankless water heater. Thanks to the engineering from Navien, you’ll have access to hot water at speeds you didn’t know possible if you’re coming from a tank model.

Depending on the setup, size, and equipment of your house, there is a Navien model made for you. You could choose one of the models specifically designed for a certain type of gas, or you could simply convert another one to fit your building. Some of the smaller models will also work if you have a vacation spot in mind.

You’ll be especially thankful for the Navien tankless heater once you open up your heating bill. Not having to constantly get new hot water circulating through your pipes is one of the biggest advantages of a tankless version. No matter which version of the Navien heater you buy, you’ll be happy with your purchase.

Air Conditioner Terms You Should Know

To be sure you’re making the right choice for an air conditioner, it’s beneficial to understand the terminology. This ensures that you don’t over-buy or under-cool.

Low temperature clipart

SEER – this is a measurement of cooling efficiency that you will see on every home air conditioner. SEER is an abbreviation for Seasonal Energy
Efficiency Ratio. The higher the number, the more efficient the unit.

Compressor clipart

Compressor – the pump responsible for moving the refrigerant through the system – from the evaporator coil indoors to the condensing unit outside, and back again. This is the heart of your system, and one of the critical components that should be covered under your warranty.

Air conditioner clipart

Split system – the most common type of home air
conditioning systems, where components are located both inside and outside the home. The typical components are:

  • Evaporator coil – the indoor unit that
serves as the transfer point for heating or cooling the air in the home
  • Condensing unit – the outdoor component that dispels the heat from your home into the outside air

Having an understanding of these basic components and rating can help you work with your air conditioning technician to find the right air conditioner for your home.

York Air Conditioner Reviews

From customers

Many York customers are quite satisfied
with both their equipment purchases, and the service they’ve received:

  • “York has been great so far. York heat pump was installed in my home new in 2003. It has run great since day one. The only service it has ever needed was a capacator replacement on the indoor fan motor, which I have been told by my service technician is a common electrical repair on any system after about 5-7 years. Other than that it has been absolutely trouble free, and I would recommend York to anyone, just make sure you are confident with your installer. I have heard time and again that the installer makes a much bigger difference on the performance of a system over time that the brand does.”
  • “York is the best brand in the world I have had a York 15 ton air handler with the accompanying condensing
unit for 15 years in my house, and it still works great! Working as a part-time AC technician, I have had quiet some experience with several brands, however, none compares to York in reliability, effieciency and user-friendly design. While other manufactures may lure customers with cheap prices and special features, York has always remained true to its standards and has engineered anything between a window ac and a liquid chiller to be a masterpiece, which offers supreme reliability, efficiency, and design.”

From Professionals And installers:

  • “I know York makes one of the smallest footprint units out there due to the micro channel outdoor coil which is pretty robust. It is made the same way your radiator on your car is made and is very efficient. It is all aluminum and can resist corrosion better than copper and I wouldn’t doubt if all coils will be aluminum in the future.”
  • “I’m a tech and work for a large contractor. We sell and service Yorks and a few other brands. We also have a large customer base with all the major brands and some of the other off-brand HVAC stuff. I think every brand has their day and their defects from time to time but what is really important is the installation. I’m a service guy but our installation crews do great work and take pride in what they do. I’ve been behind other contractors and wonder how they ever got into the business in the first place.”
  • “I think York makes a great product and they have classes for us techs quite often to keep us up to date
with the equipment and technical skills.”

But all is not rosy – other customers appear quite distraught with their experience:

  • “Bought a York due to its ‘10 year warranty.’ Compressor no good after only 2 years. The unit has been down for over two weeks. Waiting on York to ship the new compressor. House is burning up and we cannot find out if it has shipped yet.”
  • “We have 2 of York's top of the line, high efficiency units. Installed 12/26/2008. Still under warranty. Our coil on the downstairs unit has gone out 3 times. Last time was late June. Took 8 days to get one shipped to our hvac guy. Eleven days, same unit, the chiller unit burnt up. We've been without A.C. since. New unit was ordered 8 days ago. York advises that it will be another 7-14 days before they can ship new one. Here in the south, the effective temperatures have been 105- 113 for this last month. Can you imagine trying to live in that situation??? I paid good money for what was supposed to be the best unit in the market. Turns out it breaks down
  • “I have two York units. One for the upstairs and one for the downstairs. Our house was a brand new construction. In three years I am now on my 5th coil. They fail repeatedly for no good reason that anyone can determine.”

Questions To Ask Before You Buy An Air Conditioner

As a prudent consumer who wants a quality, long-lasting, reliable air conditioner for your home, while still getting the most value for your money, there are a few questions you should ask before signing that order:

  • What is the length of the warranty, and what is covered?

If your compressor fails during the warranty period, it’s great to know the manufacturer will stand behind it, but what about the labor? Often, the labor expense exceeds the cost of the parts required. Make sure you know where you stand – in writing.

  • Is installation included in your quote?

Be sure it includes equipment and all labor. Some installations can encounter
unexpected difficulties or a need for additional parts or labor. Such issues
should not impact your cost.

  • Who will do the installation?

You certainly don’t want subcontractors doing the work. They are typically paid by the job, and have been known to take shortcuts or skip over the manufacturer’s startup and checkout procedures. This can create long-lasting problems with your
system.

Air Conditioner Reviews - Conclusions

There are a few obvious takeaways you can
get from reviews – good and bad:

  • Reliable
    installation is key

make sure you’re AC unit is installed by qualified technicians that are certified and recognized by the manufacturer. With York equipment and certified installers on the job, the manufacturer can be counted on to stand behind your air conditioner for the long haul.

  • Sizing
    is critical

Don’t over or under-estimate your air
conditioning needs. Purchase the right size unit(s) specified by the professionals who evaluate your heating and a/c needs. This ensures the best results for long-lasting, trouble-free home comfort.

Customer Testimonials

Happy customers are quite willing to share their Lochinvar experiences:

“I have owned the Lochinvar ETN040 gas water heater for over 8 years. The Lochinvar water heater replaced my old water heater in May 2003 when I had a new furnace installed, and as the contractor handled both heating and plumbing they offered me a deal on the combination package that included the water heater. I have been very pleased with the Lochinvar ETN040. It has a 40 gallon tank capacity which has been sufficient for this house that includes 1 ½ bathrooms, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Operation is very quiet. The thermostat is adjustable and includes a vacation setting that I always use when going out of town on an extended trip. This feature seems to offer the right balance between maintaining the tank temperature warm enough where it doesn't take long to get up to normal after returning from vacation yet allowing for noticeable cost savings on my gas bill for those times. The water heater came with a 6 year manufacturer warranty, and it has not required any repairs in its over 8 years of service. The only thing I wish was different was that the thermostat is labeled only in relative terms such as "warm" or "hot" with difficult to see marks between them; a graduated scale with numericaltemperature values would help achieve a more precise setting. I would consider the Lochinvar brand again when it comes time to replace this one and would recommend it to others.”

“I had a Lochinvar 50 electric installed 5 years ago and it seems to heat better than the previous heater that it replaced. I'm installing another one in our vacation home as my neighbor there has a Lochinvar and has had no problems either. The Home Depot brand it replaced in my current home had problem after problem and when the warranty expired I switched. Nothing but Lochinvar for me!”

“We installed a new Lochinvar water heater shortly after moving into our new house. The old one was shot and barley produced any hot water. The new water heater works very well. It heats water quickly, in addition it always seems like we have enough hot water in the tank. Relighting the pilot light is pretty simple and the tank has simple to follow controls for turning up the temperature. I have noticed that our gas bills are slightly lower than when we first moved in. The new water heater is the only change we made related to gas in the house, so I am assuming this model is more efficient than the last. I would recommend this model to a friend as so far it has been reliable and we have had no issues. The tank seems to be well construct and very solid. Overall it is a solid, reliable water heater that does what we need it to do.”

But not every consumer has the same happy tale to tell:

“Purchased an 80-gallon solar water heater in 2008, and in 2012 it had to be replaced because it was leaking rusty water. Now, in 2015, it has the same problem - leaking a large amount of water again. The cost of removing and replacing it, even though the tank is under warranty, is not saving me any money by having solar.”

“Had a Lochinvar installed in my house August 2016. In August 2018 (2 years and 1 day later) it began leaking during a showing of my house, which was for sale. While the cost of the tank was covered under the warranty, it still cost nearly $1,000 in parts and labor to install the new one. When a heater fails that soon after installation, everything should be covered. There is no excuse for failure after 2 years. My last water heater (not a Lochinvar) lasted over 10. Don't waste your money.”

“Had this water heater installed in 2-2014, it worked fine until 2-2015. The pilot light will not stay lit. The manufacturer replaced the unit on 3-6-2015; however, I had to pay the people to install it and make a home call, $125.00. The new unit worked until 3-16-2015; had to light the pilot, the same procedure May 3, 2015. It lit long enough to light the burner, which worked for about 15 minutes. Then the pilot would not light again. I then called the company that installed the replacement. Waiting for them to get back to me, now I have no hot water. If you don't want an armload of problems, don't buy this product.”

From professionals and installers:

“I just want say I am a master plumber of 35 years and used to work in N.Dallas area and we sold and installed and very rare to have to repair a lochinvar Water heater they are made like an American product should be as like a Chicago faucet heavy duty I am proud of my trade and the American products we sell. Thanks”
